Jinx Sister (2008)
Jinx Sister is a 'growing of age' story, a meditation on how the past affects the present. It deals with sibling rivalry, loss, our need for intimacy and the stories we spin that imprison us if we let them. Laura (Wiseman) who is convinced she is a jinx. People who get close to her have a habit of dying. She returns to New Zealand and enters the unfamiliar Polynesian world her sister Marie (Nash) inhabits. Here, money and appearance are not what count. With the help of Sam (Rawiri), a Maori, who has had it tough but is far more together than Laura, and Hine (Heka), a Polynesian single mum, Laura discovers that it is your connections with other people that make life worth living.
